What You Can Expect

The AAOHN COHN/COHN-S in-person review course covers the major components of occupational health nursing. The course curriculum is being organized to follow the ABOHN Exam Outline updated for September 2024. Attending the course will prepare you to study  for the certification exams. Through  participation in AAOHN's course, attendees will organize their study and map to the content outline of the ABOHN exam blueprint, test-taking strategies are introduced, and interactive discussions, peer networking, as well pre and post-test questions will be provided in group activities or for individual study in the learner resources.

This new version of the course will be formated for lecture, discussion, hands-on activities, case studies, practice tests, and games. Nurses interested in learning more about the field of occupational health nursing will also find the course beneficial as a broad overview of occupational health nursing is presented.

Learner Objectives

  • Define current occupational health nursing roles and functions and describe occupational health nursing strategies for providing direct care and health promotion to workers.
  • Discuss the concepts and principles of ergonomics, industrial hygiene, case management, hearing conservation, toxicology, epidemiology, and occupational health nursing research.
  • Discuss legislation relevant to occupational health nursing, as well as federal standards and regulations.
  • Identify topic areas to be studied for ABOHN Certified Occupational Health Nurse exams.

  • 85% of OHNs who complete this course will report that it provided them with the tools needed to prepare for the ABOHN exam.
